Canadian GP set to return in 2010

The Canadian Grand Prix should return to the Formula One calendar next year according to the race's organisers.

Canada was not included in the 2009 season due to a dispute between local organisers, Grand Prix F1 du Canada and Formula One Administration , which holds the commercial rights to the F1 series.

"I am very happy, and fully satisfied, with this outcome. I have always been confident of being able to resolve the dispute," said Normand Legault, President and CEO of Grand Prix F1 du Canada in a statement.

"I am especially pleased that an announcement is forthcoming to the effect that the Canadian Grand Prix will be back on the FIA calendar as of 2010.

"I never doubted that the Canadian race would regain its rightful place on the schedule, and my discussions with F1 management led me to believe that the event would return soon," he added.

Legault said, however, that he would not remain involved as a local promoter.

The Canadian Grand Prix had been part of the F1 World Championship since 1967 and since 1982 has been held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
